New research reveals that nearly half of tradespeople view asbestos as a problem of the past.

According to a recent survey, over a quarter of respondents (26%) also stated that they have not followed proper removal procedures when they have encountered asbestos.

The survey was commissioned by an independent training provider, unrelated to HSE.

Why are workers taking risks?

Common reasons include cost concerns, pressure from employers and lack of proper equipment. However, working with asbestos without proper training is illegal.

Although there is no safe limit of exposure to asbestos fibres, repeated exposures significantly increase your risk of becoming ill. Some asbestos-related diseases, such as mesothelioma, are almost always fatal.
